Biography
Dr. Melissa Horning earned her doctoral degree in Audiology from Syracuse University and completed Bachelor’s degrees in Biomedical Humanities and Communication from Hiram College. Dr. Horning fulfilled part of her doctoral training at Boy’s Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska where she studied speech perception abilities of preschool children with hearing loss. During her time at Syracuse she also held an assistantship in the Pediatric Audiology Laboratory and was able to present research findings at national conferences. Prior to joining CEENTA she was employed by an ENT clinic in Northwest Ohio where she provided audiologic care to patients ranging from 1 month to 107 years of age!
Her interest in Audiology stemmed from working with children with disabilities, many of whom had communication disorders. Her clinical interests include pediatric diagnosis and rehabilitation, fitting cochlear implants and bone-anchored hearing devices on children and adults, newborn hearing screening and electrophysiologic testing. Dr. Horning’s passion is to improve communication for both the adults and children she works with, whether it is an adult hearing a sound they have not heard in years or a child discovering sound for the first time.
Dr. Horning is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and loves cheering on all Cleveland sports teams. She enjoys living in south Charlotte with her husband and their Wheaten terrier, Barley.
