The proper amount of BOTOX for her needs

With review and feedback from CEENTA facial plastic surgery specialist Susan Yanik, MD (Concord, Mooresville, Salisbury)

You’ve decided to get BOTOX to smooth out some of your wrinkles and fine lines. Since this is your first time getting these injections, you’re wondering how much BOTOX you need.

BOTOX basics

BOTOX injections are measured in units, and each unit equals .01 milliliters. Treatment is calculated based on how many units you need injected into each site.

Before we get into specifics, it’s important to note that each person will need a different amount of BOTOX based on their personal anatomy. This includes treatment areas, the depth and number of the wrinkles and creases, and inherent gender differences between men and women.

Some general estimates

However, there are some estimates you can use to get a basic idea of what you’ll need. For example, crow’s feet might need between 6-12 units around each eye, CEENTA facial plastic surgery specialist Susan Yanik, MD, said. Forehead lines could take anywhere from 10 to 30 units, while glabellar frown lines could take between 20 and 25.

How will I know how much BOTOX I'll need?

Before you get any injections, you’ll meet with your facial plastic or oculoplastic surgeon for a consultation. There, you will discuss concerning areas, and your doctor will let you know how much BOTOX they think you’ll need and the risks and benefits of the procedure.
