With review and feedback from CEENTA facial plastic surgery specialist Susan Yanik, MD (Concord, Huntersville)
You’ve made the call and your facial plastic consultation is scheduled. This is unlike any other doctor’s appointment you’ve made, though, and you’re not quite sure what will happen. Today we’re going to give you an overview of what you could expect at your first facial plastic appointment.
The first thing you should do before you schedule your consultation is research physicians who perform the procedure you are interested in. At CEENTA, our facial plastic surgeons have received specialty training in plastic surgery of the face in addition to head and neck surgery, so making an appointment with one who offers the care you desire will help you get the best result. Learning the background and credentials of the doctor you want to see could also help put you at ease before getting a procedure you might be a little nervous about.
Like with other medical appointments, a medical assistant will ask you some questions about your medical and surgical history. This will help your doctor determine if the procedure you want is safe for you, and what to expect given your history and medications you take.
Once your workup is complete, you’ll meet with your plastic surgery specialist. This is the time to explain to him or her the procedure you are interested in and why. They will provide you with realistic expectations from such a procedure, or even if it’s medically feasible. "In some cases, your doctor will tell you a procedure can’t be done without consequences on breathing or facial form," CEENTA facial plastic surgery specialist Susan Yanik, MD, said.
Your doctor may also use computer imaging assistance to digitally morph photos of you to give you a good idea of the results of the procedure you’re requesting.
Many facial plastic surgeons have before-and-after photo albums for you to peruse. This way you can see what other people who have received your procedure look like and get a better idea of the type of work your doctor does.
We want your first facial plastic experience to be as comfortable and informative as possible. Schedule an appointment at CEENTA for the consultation you deserve.
