What causes facial aging?

Facial aging is caused by a combination of volume loss (deflation) + gravity (sagging) + bony remodeling (loss of support). Changes occur at every level and the result is a change in facial shape and texture.

What causes skin scarring?

When your thicker layer of your skin (the dermis) is damaged, collagen forms around the wound to help with healing. Often, this can result in uneven textures that stand out from the rest of your skin’s uniformity. For acne scars in particular, the appearance can be sunken.

What laser and light options are available for skin rejuvenation?

CEENTA offers two different laser options for skin rejuvenation: the Forever Young BBL™ mode by Sciton and the DEKA DOT Fractional CO2 laser. Both devices are fractional lasers, meaning that they only target a portion of the skin at a time for a more precise treatment.

Who is a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing?

People who have fine lines or wrinkles or shallow acne scares are the best candidates for laser skin resurfacing. People with active acne, deep wrinkles, or excessive skin are generally not good candidates. People with a lighter complexion are better candidates than those with darker skin tones.

How is laser resurfacing performed?

Forever Young BBL™ by Sciton Treatment

Patients opting to use the BBL modality for their skin treatment will receive local anesthesia prior to the procedure. Your physician will move the device above the target area as light energy gently heats the upper layers of the skin. This heat is absorbed and stimulates collagen production, which creates more supple, smooth skin. This is an outpatient, non-invasive procedure.

DEKA DOT CO2 Laser Treatment

The DEKA DOT CO2 laser uses electricity to heat up a tube containing a gas mixture comprised of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and other elements. This creates a light that can be used to fractionally target uneven and scarred areas of the skin. Prior to the treatment, patients will receive local anesthesia along with medicine for larger or more sensitive surface areas. Unlike the BBL mode, the CO2 laser removes portions of the epidermis and heats the dermis to foster more collagen growth.

This procedure takes approximately 30 minutes up to 2 hours depending on the area being treated.

What are the results and limitations for laser resurfacing?

Both the Forever Young BBL™ by Sciton and DEKA DOT CO2 Laser can provide even skin textures against fine lines, wrinkles, and prominent scars. These results can last for months at a time due to the level of treatment on the epidermis.

Patients should be aware that common side effects following both procedures may include redness, itching, and some scabbing on the treatment area. It is recommended to avoid using makeup for at least a week following the BBL treatment or two weeks after the CO2 Laser.

Both the BBL and the CO2 laser treatment are advised for those with lighter skin tones to avoid absorbing too much light energy during the procedure.
