Ideal Protein Diet

Ideal Protein

Ideal Protein is a weight-loss program started and overseen by Dr. Fariha Abbasi of Charlotte Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates, P.A. (CEENTA). With the Ideal Protein program, women lose an average of 3-5 pounds a week and men lose an average of 5-7 pounds a week.

The Ideal Protein diet is a moderate protein diet that takes into account maintaining muscle mass. It was designed for world-class athletes that needed to lose fat and retain muscle. In total, over 5,500 pounds have been lost through Dr. Abbasi’s Ideal Protein program at CEENTA.

Dr. Tran Tien Chanh developed the protocol for the Ideal Protein diet almost 25 years ago after much research on the treatment of obesity-related issues. Sydrome X is a disorder characterized by four symptoms: central obesity, hypertension, hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia. Many medicines will make the symptoms of Syndrome X worse by increasing insulin receptor sensitivity. The Ideal Protein diet treats Syndrome X with food, since there is evidence it is actually caused by food in the form of too many carbohydrates or sugars.

The Ideal Protein diet contains four phases, the first being an “induction” phase in which carbohydrates are limited in favor or protein meals that we will supply. Carbohydrates remain limited in the second phase, but you will be able to replace some of the protein meals with those of your choice. You will introduce healthy carbohydrates and fats back into your diet during the third phase, but only in the morning. In the fourth phase, you will begin eating in a healthy manner that will allow you to maintain your ideal weight.

The Ideal Protein diet is a complementary program to many other services at CEENTA. Weight loss is often recommended for treating ENT problems, such as snoring, sleep apnea, acid reflux or GERD.
